Great Gulf takes top wood design awards

Toronto-based Great Gulf, one of Ontario’s largest residential developers, took two major wood design awards in October at the annual Wood Works! Awards held in Toronto.
The company took the Environmental Building Award for its Active House Centennial Park project, while Tadd Putyra, president and COO of Great Gulf Low-Rise and president of H+ME Technology, took the Wood Champion Award.
The awards program, from Ontario Wood Works, honours individuals and organizations that, through design excellence, advocacy, and innovation, are advancing the use of wood in all types of construction.
Active House Centennial Park employs an innovative structural wood and wall system with an integrated air barrier that streamlines the weatherization process and transforms the assembly of exterior walls into a simpler installation process. The system is an integrated 3-ply exterior sheathing material (Rigid Insulation, OSB Sheathing, and House Wrap), saving on triple handling of material and installation time. An advancAed indoor automated manufacturing plant allows wall and floor assemblies to be built as integrated panels in a controlled environment, the company explained.
